Create Your Own Blog Archive Page...!

If you have a lot of blog posts, you should consider creating a blog archive page that organizes your posts by year and month. Follow the steps in this article to learn how to create a blog archive page.

Hint:
Check out our blog archive page demonstration website to see how the final archive will function. The look of your archive can be customized and may differ in appearance from our test site.

Step 1

For each blog post that you have, add a category with the month and year that it was posted in whatever format you prefer, e.g. May2009 or apr-2012. Make sure to add this for every post that you've already written and for all posts that you write in the future. Look at the screenshot to see where you can add categories to a blog post.

Step 2

Now you need to create the actual pages where the archive will be located by following these steps:

  1. Hover over your Navigation and click Edit Navigation.
  2. Add a new page for each year that has at least one blog post, e.g. 2011, 2012, 2013.
  3. Add new subpages for each month that has at least blog post. Make sure to do this for each year, i.e. you may have an April subpage for both 2011 and 2012.
  4. Click Save.

Refer to the screenshot to see what a typical blog archive navigation could look like.

Step 3

On each of the month pages that you added in Step 2, add a Blog Display element. For each Blog Display element, set the Category to be the same month and year as the page that the Blog Display element is located on. For example, if you're editing the Blog Display element on the July 2012 page, set the category as July-2012 (make sure to use the same category name that you added to the blog posts).

After you create the Blog Display elements for each month, you've completed your blog archive. Continue to add categories to future blog posts and make new pages for additional years and months as necessary.
